long time.

okay, it's been a long time. sorry.

i can't believe Justine has been gone for so long. i really never thought that there would be a time when she wouldn't be around. godammit. it'll never stop hurting.

and there's a cat we could take, for free, if we wanted. my friend Aaron has a cat, also semi-old, but still viviacious, that can't live in his house, and so is living in an rv behind his house. my mom and i saw this cat, Spectre, on New Year's Eve, and the poor thing was so starved for attention... i really wanted to take him home that night, but i don't know if it was pity, or sorrow, or missing Justine that drove me. i've known Spectre since i was 15 or so, so he's not an uknown quantity... but despite wanting him very much, i think i should wait.

we're going to Australia next month, feb. 10 til march2nd, so we shouldn't take charge of any pets til we get back. as it is, we'll have to ask a friend to take care of our bird (who is enjoying the cat-free lifestyle, believe you me).

i just don't want to transfer all of my "Justine-stuff" to another cat. i don't want to freak out any poor creature by suddenly bursting into tears because they're not some other creature, you know? not fair to the living - they can tell when you're upset, and i wouldn't want to do that to whoever comes along next.

in other news, work really sucks now. Mimi has driven off or fired everyone except me and the dingbat Shirley, who got hired as holiday help, then kept on permanently despite her dingbatedness.
while getting lots of hours doesn't bother me, being the only one there who knows how to do stuff, who isn't completely new and/or a complete airhead DOES bother me. i'm not being paid enough to do all of the stuff they expect me to do, nor am i getting any benefits for working full-time.

(they also have told me that my hair is getting too wild, though this, supposedly, comes from the DM and not Mimi, who says she likes my hairstyle. i guess it's just too much for the company, to have an employee with a rockabilly hairdo.everyone who comes into the shop LOVES my hair, and they tell me so.  i'd love to see the Australian or British dresscode. hrmpf)

Mimi is calming down, though, now that she's getting used to the routine (and now that all of the people she doesn't like are GONE), but, still, i might not come back from my leave of absence they're making me take cos my "vacation" will be so long. anyone have any suggestions as to where might have a job open?

and oh yes, i finally managed to get a new memory stick for my poor little computer. office depot hadthe right kind on sale, and with a  mail-in rebate, so i ran out and got one. i wish they'd had two, cos the difference in speed is remarkable. makesme a little misty-eyed to think about it.. now i can run more than one program without anything fucking up! yippee!!

i also (finally) joined netflix, and discovered, rather roundaboutly, that movies burned onto dvd+r discs won't play in my parent's player, but that dvd-r discs will.
go figure.

and, oh yeah, my dad drinks too much (not falling down drunk, but more than is healthy for a diabetic man recovering from a broken neck), and i'm afraid my mom will leave him if she finds out (she's been thinking about it anyway), so my sister and i have to figure out how to go about dealing with this as delicately as possible.

thanks for this burden, dad. i guess beer is more important than family, eh?
